Cacao and Banana Smoothie Bowl

Makes 2 bowls

1 cup almond milk

2/3 frozen banana

2 Tablespoons cacao powder (you can use cocoa, see note below)

2 Tablespoons nut butter

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 Tablespoon hemp seeds (optional: flax seeds)

½ of 1 date

½ cup ice cubes

Place the almond milk, banana, cacoa powder, nut butter, cinnamon, vanilla, hemp seeds, date, and ice cubes in a blender or vitamix. Puree until smooth and creamy. Add the topping of your choice!

Some of my Favorite Toppings

  • Granola
  • Almonds
  • Chia Seeds
  • Chopped banana, or strawberries
  • Blueberries, raspberries
  • Cacao nibs
  • Flax seed
  • Coconut flakes
  • Nuts or seeds

If you love smoothies as much as I do, it’s always worth having some chopped up bananas in the freezer. Cut them into bite sized chunks, flash freeze on a baking sheet so they don’t stick together, pop in a ziplock bag!

Cacao is the rawest form of chocolate and the closest to the natural state when it is harvested.

Cocoa is more processed, it’s essentially cacao, however it is heated to very high temperatures which destroy the many health benefits of cacao.
